Overview:
This is a one week contract assignment from Monday July 20th through Friday July 24th. There is a one time payment stipend of $1500.00
We are looking for a dynamic and hands-on Costume Design Lead to lead the scenic design and creation of a small subset of costumes for our 1-week Youth Theater Camp. This individual will not be responsible for designing and creating the entire performance wardrobe, just the small subset of the wardrobe as directed by the production team. You will, however, be responsible for planning and facilitating engaging daily activities that involve campers in the full creative process—from concept to creation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design an imaginative, and functional costume for a performance of Legally Blonde Jr at the Cherry Hill Village Theater, aligned with the production’s theme and goals.
- Plan and lead daily camp activities that introduce participants (ages 14-18) to wardrobe design concepts, sewing and alterations, planning and budgeting, supply shopping, and stagecraft.
- Actively involve youth participants in brainstorming, designing, and creating your costumes throughout the week.
- Collaborate closely with the camp director, production team, and other creative staff to ensure a cohesive and achievable production vision.
- Provide age-appropriate instruction and ensure a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment during all activities.
- Manage time, materials, and budget efficiently.
Qualifications:
- Experience in costume design, preferably with youth or educational theater programs.
- Demonstrated ability to lead group activities and teach creative or technical skills to youth.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to create a fun, structured daily plan.
- Knowledge of sewing/tailoring, costume design, and alterations.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Must be able to pass a background check.
Bonus Skills (Not Required):
- Previous experience in a theater environment
- Previous planning or leading theater camps or workshops.
- Artistic background in fashion or design.
- Enthusiasm for working with young artists and encouraging their creative growth.
