The Fashion Design Instructor is responsible for delivering an engaging, student-centered after-school program introducing students to fashion design, textile customization, and garment embellishment techniques. The instructor brings energy, creativity, and a passion for youth development to every session, creating a studio culture that is welcoming, expressive, and skill-building.
This position requires hands-on instruction in the safe and creative use of heat press equipment, iron-on vinyl and transfers, rhinestones and embellishments, fabric paint, and other customization tools applied to shirts, hats, hoodies, pants, tote bags, and other apparel items.
Instructional Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging after-school fashion design lessons aligned with program goals and appropriate for middle school students (grades 6–8)
- Teach hands-on techniques including heat press operation, HTV (heat transfer vinyl) cutting and application, iron-on embellishments, rhinestoning, fabric paint, screen printing basics, and garment customization

- Guide students through design projects involving shirts, hoodies, hats, pants, tote bags, jackets, and other apparel and accessories
- Introduce students to fundamental design concepts: color theory, layout, typography on garments, brand identity, and personal style
- Differentiate instruction to support students at varying skill levels, from beginners to those with prior creative experience
- Incorporate elements of fashion history, streetwear culture, and the business side of fashion (entrepreneurship, pricing, branding) as supplemental content
Pay: $30.00 – $35.00 per hour
