Pet Bed and Accessories Product Developer Jobs in New York, NY at Dream Home NY
We are seeking a creative and commercially minded Pet Bed & Accessories Designer to join our growing team. This role is at the intersection of design, trend, and product development. You will be responsible for conceiving and executing a compelling pet bed and accessories line that resonates with off-price retail buyers and their customers. You will sketch original concepts, track emerging lifestyle and pet trends, and work closely with our overseas sourcing and development teams to bring product from idea to shelf. Key Responsibilities
- Sketch and develop original designs for pet beds, carriers, accessories, and related soft goods across seasonal collections
- Conduct ongoing trend research across home, lifestyle, and pet markets to inform the design direction
- Build and maintain seasonal design presentations and line reviews for off-price retail accounts including TJX Companies, HomeGoods, Ross Stores, Burlington, and similar channels
- Partner with overseas factories and production teams to translate sketches into detailed tech packs and specification packages
- Manage the product development calendar, tracking samples, revisions, and approvals from concept through production
- Collaborate with sales and category management on assortment planning, item mix, and price point strategy
- Review and approve pre-production and production samples against design intent and quality standards
- Stay current on competitive product at retail and identify white space opportunities within the pet category
Qualifications
- 3–6 years of experience in product design or development, with a focus on soft goods, home décor, or pet products
- Demonstrated experience designing for off-price retail accounts (TJX/HomeGoods, Ross, Burlington strongly preferred)
- Strong sketching skills with proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and/or other design tools
- Experience developing detailed tech packs and working directly with overseas suppliers and factories
- Solid understanding of fabric, fill, and materials sourcing as it applies to pet or home soft goods
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
- A collaborative, solutions-oriented mindset with strong communication skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Fashion/Product Design, or a related field preferred
