Associate Product Developer, Sampling
Location: Hybrid – New York, NY (3 days onsite, 2 days remote)
About the Opportunity
Our client, a leading women’s global retail organization, is seeking an Associate Product Developer, Sampling to support the end-to-end product sampling process for seasonal product development. This is an excellent opportunity for an organized, detail-oriented professional who enjoys working cross-functionally in a fast-paced retail environment.
In this role, you will coordinate all sampling activities—from prepositioning sample yardage and tracking garment samples to maintaining readiness reporting for key business milestones. You will partner closely with Design, Product Development, Merchandising, Raw Materials, Color, Print, Marketing, and external vendor partners to ensure samples are delivered accurately and on schedule.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate the end-to-end sampling process across assigned product categories.
- Order and manage sample yardage at both greige and color levels using the PLM system.
- Process vendor and supplier invoices related to sample yardage and garment sample production.
- Track garment samples from request through delivery, ensuring timely receipt for key milestones.
- Maintain regular communication with vendors and suppliers to ensure adherence to seasonal calendars and deadlines.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all sampling-related activities within assigned categories.
- Partner with Design, Product Development, Merchandising, Raw Materials, Print, Color, and Marketing teams to support product development initiatives.
- Attend cross-functional meetings to provide sampling updates and understand evolving business priorities.
- Maintain seasonal sample trackers and readiness reports at both the material and style level.
- Develop and distribute readiness reports and leadership dashboards highlighting sample status, key metrics, and milestone progress.
- Monitor sampling costs and maintain reporting for seasonal budgets.
- Identify opportunities to improve sampling processes and operational efficiency.
- Effectively prioritize multiple projects while meeting changing business needs and deadlines.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Product Development, Fashion Merchandising, Apparel, Textiles, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- 1–3 years of product development, sampling, merchandising, sourcing, or related retail experience.
- Understanding of the apparel product development lifecycle.
- Basic knowledge of garment construction and fabrics; textile knowledge is a plus.
- Experience working with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems; Centric PLM experience is preferred.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive, results-oriented mindset.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across teams.
